Are Tamagotchis Worth It? My Experience

2–3 minutes

In 2022, I bought a Tamagotchi Pix after spending quite a while daydreaming about experiencing the magic of owning a Tamagotchi again. Although I had already downloaded a Tamagotchi game for my phone, it just wasn’t the same. I realized I wanted the complete experience of carrying around a dedicated virtual pet instead of simply opening an app whenever I had a few spare minutes.

My experience ended up being even better than I expected. These little devices have evolved a lot over the years while still preserving the charm that made the original Tamagotchis so memorable. That’s why I believe buying a modern Tamagotchi is absolutely worth it, even today.

If you’re thinking about getting a newer model like the Tamagotchi Pix or the Tamagotchi Paradise, I can honestly say it’s a great purchase if you’re looking for a relaxing hobby. In my experience, taking care of a virtual pet brought a surprising amount of joy to my daily routine. Checking on my Tamagotchi throughout the day became something I genuinely looked forward to, and it often gave me a pleasant break from whatever else I was doing.

One of the first things that impressed me about the Tamagotchi Pix was how charming its world felt. Instead of simply feeding your pet and cleaning up after it, you can take it to different locations, such as the park or the café, making the experience feel much more alive. These little activities add personality to the game and make your virtual companion feel like part of a bigger world.

Modern Tamagotchis also include a variety of fun minigames that let you earn Gotchi Points while keeping your pet happy. My personal favorites were the table tennis game and the rocket game. They were simple but surprisingly addictive, and I often found myself playing for longer than I intended. Sometimes, those few minutes of gameplay were enough to help me forget about my worries and simply enjoy the moment.

What I appreciate most, however, is how modern these devices feel without losing the classic Tamagotchi experience. My Tamagotchi Pix included a camera and several new features that would have seemed impossible decades ago, yet caring for my virtual pet still captured the same feeling I remembered from childhood.

At the end of the day, that’s exactly what a Tamagotchi is designed to do. It’s not meant to replace video games or compete with smartphones. Instead, it offers small moments of relaxation throughout the day and encourages you to slow down for a few minutes. For me, that’s exactly what made my Tamagotchi Pix such a worthwhile purchase, and why I think modern Tamagotchis are still worth buying today.

What I appreciate most is how modern these devices feel without losing the classic Tamagotchi experience.
