How I Reduced Stress With Small Changes

Many people who know me see me as a fairly calm and relaxed person. However, I have to admit that my days can sometimes be quite stressful. Between working with clients as a content manager and running my record label, I often have a long list of responsibilities competing for my attention.

Interestingly, the biggest source of stress in my life was not the work itself. Instead, it came from my inability to disconnect once the workday was over. Even when I wasn’t actively working, I found myself thinking about projects, future plans, and everything that still needed to be done. Eventually, I realized that if I wanted to feel better, I needed to make some small but meaningful changes to my daily routine.

One of the first things I did was give myself permission to have fun without feeling guilty about it. For a long time, I believed that every free moment should be spent doing something productive. The problem with that mindset is that it can leave you feeling exhausted and mentally drained. Over time, I learned that relaxation is not the opposite of productivity—it is actually an important part of it. Rest allows us to recharge, think more clearly, and show up with more energy the next day.

To help myself unwind, I started spending some time playing indie games on my phone and watching entertaining videos on YouTube. While it’s true that excessive screen time can sometimes increase stress, I have been much more intentional about the content I consume. Instead of endlessly scrolling through negative or overwhelming content, I focus on things that genuinely help me relax and enjoy the moment.

I have also committed to making small lifestyle changes that support both my mental and physical well-being. For example, a few months ago my sister gave me a great water bottle, and it has helped me stay consistently hydrated throughout the day. Hydration may seem like a simple thing, but taking care of basic habits can have a surprisingly positive impact on how we feel.

Since I started paying more attention to my daily habits and allowing myself to relax at the end of the day, life has felt noticeably different. I feel happier, more balanced, and better equipped to handle challenges when they arise. In my experience, these small changes have made a much bigger difference than I ever expected.

To conclude, reducing everyday stress is often more achievable than it seems. Small adjustments to your habits, mindset, and routine can add up over time and improve your overall quality of life. That said, if stress becomes overwhelming or difficult to manage on your own, it is always a good idea to speak with a qualified healthcare professional who can provide guidance and support.
