If I’m being honest, I think fashion trends are something worth observing — but not necessarily following all the time. Trends can definitely be useful as inspiration when putting outfits together, but I believe there are much more important things than simply wearing whatever everyone else is wearing.
One of those things is mood.
To me, fashion is ultimately about communication. The clothes we wear say something about us, whether we realize it or not, and I truly believe people would enjoy fashion much more if they approached it from that perspective instead of treating it like a set of rules.
When I talk about “mood,” I mean the feeling or energy we want an outfit to express. That mood can be anything. Some days we may want to come across as calm, soft, and serene, while other days we may want to feel bold, dramatic, mysterious, or even playful. Clothing gives us the opportunity to reflect different parts of ourselves depending on how we feel in the moment.
Personally, I think that’s where the real magic of fashion lives. There’s something incredibly satisfying about looking in the mirror and recognizing yourself in the outfit you created. It stops being just clothing and starts feeling like a form of self-expression — almost like a visual extension of your personality.
Of course, this doesn’t mean trends are completely useless. I still think trends can be fun and inspiring, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with incorporating them into your personal style. The difference is that I prefer using trends as tools rather than following them for the sake of fitting in. Instead of asking, “What is everyone wearing right now?” I’d rather ask, “Does this match the mood I want to create?”
That small shift changes everything.
Fashion becomes much more personal, creative, and emotionally rewarding when you focus on mood first and trends second. You stop dressing to meet expectations and start dressing in a way that genuinely reflects who you are.
At the end of the day, everyone should approach fashion however they want. But personally, I’ll always choose mood and self-expression over blindly chasing trends — because I think that’s what makes style feel alive, authentic, and ultimately a lot more meaningful.
