Why I Prefer Personal Style Over Luxury

I have nothing against luxury — not at all. If you ask me, there’s something genuinely magical about being able to own beautiful clothing or accessories. Fashion houses create pieces with incredible craftsmanship, and there’s no denying the artistic value behind many designer brands. However, I don’t believe that looking “luxurious” should be the ultimate goal when it comes to the way we dress.

Personally, I think there’s something far more important in fashion: personal style. To me, fashion is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression we have, and I strongly believe it should be separated from the pursuit of status. Clothing should not only be about appearing wealthy or important — it should be about communicating who we are.

Fashion feels like a conversation without words. Some people use it to express serenity and softness, while others dress to appear modern, experimental, or fashion-forward. Some people prefer timeless elegance, while others enjoy chaos, contrast, or nostalgia. That diversity is what makes fashion so beautiful to me. The most memorable outfits are usually the ones that feel personal rather than expensive.

Of course, luxury still has a place in this conversation. Brands like Prada or Chanel often approach fashion almost like an art form, and I think people who truly love fashion can appreciate that creative vision. Designer pieces can absolutely become part of someone’s identity and artistic expression. The problem only begins when luxury is used purely as a tool for reinforcing status or creating unhealthy social hierarchies.

To me, getting dressed is an art in itself — even if it’s not always recognized that way. And the truth is that great style does not depend entirely on price tags. Some people create incredibly compelling looks using accessible brands like H&M or Zara, and honestly, I find that much more inspiring than wearing expensive labels simply for the sake of wearing them.

At the end of the day, fashion exists to help us express how we see the world and who we truly are. Luxury can absolutely contribute to that expression, but personal style should always come first. That emotional and creative connection is the real reason so many of us fall in love with fashion in the first place.
