5 Adventure Games for Mac That I Loved

My MacBook has been a great companion when it comes to playing indie adventure games that leave a lasting impression. While it’s true that many of the games available on Steam aren’t compatible with macOS, finding excellent adventure titles is still possible if you’re willing to do a little searching.

Over the years, I’ve discovered so many memorable narrative-driven and point-and-click adventures that I don’t even feel the need to buy a gaming console anytime soon. That’s why I wanted to share five adventure games for Mac that I personally loved and would happily recommend to other players looking for something special.

The first game I want to mention is Oxenfree, which remains my favorite adventure game of all time. This supernatural coming-of-age story follows a group of teenagers who find themselves caught in a series of mysterious and unsettling events on a remote island. With its natural dialogue system, atmospheric soundtrack, and intriguing paranormal mystery, Oxenfree is a game that kept me invested from beginning to end.

From the same developers comes Afterparty, another unique and entertaining adventure game. In this story, you play as Milo and Lola, two best friends who suddenly find themselves in Hell without understanding why they ended up there. To earn a chance to return to Earth, they must outdrink Satan himself. The game’s humor, memorable characters, and imaginative setting make it a fun experience that stands out from other narrative adventures.

Another title that deserves recognition is Kathy Rain. If you’re a fan of classic point-and-click adventures, this game is definitely worth your time. You play as Kathy, a journalism student investigating a mysterious case connected to her family. With its engaging story, strong protagonist, and retro-inspired presentation, Kathy Rain delivers a compelling mystery that is difficult to put down.

On a completely different note, Kentucky Route Zero is one of the most artistic and thought-provoking games I’ve ever played. Set along a mysterious underground highway in Kentucky, the game blends magical realism with themes such as debt, unemployment, uncertainty, and human connection. Its dreamlike atmosphere and poetic storytelling create an experience unlike anything else in gaming.

Finally, this list wouldn’t be complete without Jenny LeClue – Detectivu. I absolutely loved this game. Combining mystery, humor, and a charming visual style, it follows a young detective as she uncovers secrets in her hometown. The game’s cute aesthetic and well-crafted narrative make it an excellent choice for players who enjoy story-focused indie games.

At the end of the day, finding great adventure games for Mac isn’t as difficult as it might seem. There are plenty of fantastic indie experiences available if you know where to look. Hopefully, this list helps fellow Mac users discover a few memorable adventures and enjoy everything that indie gaming has to offer.
